Essential summer exhibitions in Brussels? Here is the second of our ten commandments: Abner Preis at Harlan Levey Projects!

It doesn’t get more fundamental than this. With his heart on his sleeve and his soul on the floor, former superhero Abner Preis is back at Harlan Levey Projects for his second exhibition. This time, the storyteller did not start from the perfect, desired biceps, but from the Achilles’ heel. With sculptures (life-size Plague Doctors and Spirit Sticks), videos, and Fire Paintings, “The Plague Doctors” delves into the intimate and complex world of sickness and death to emerge with cures and new beginnings. Preis’s exhibition tells a terribly powerful and hopeful story that bathes in simplicity and light. “There is no hiding. You have to be there! Boxing constantly.” One jab after the other, Preis works the head and body to tantalise the heart. Exorcism, nothing less!
