The celebrity pictures it contains – including album covers, television stills, or paparazzi shots – are transformed into sumptuous, uncanny portraits of the likes of Cher, Beck, Prince, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, or Michael Jackson.
It was the latter who provided the title of his first exhibition at Almine Rech: Jackson’s Neverland ranch turned out to be the perfect setting for his internet, celebrity culture, and melodrama-infused brushstrokes.
