'Eternals': is that you, Chloé Zhao?

Chinese director Chloé Zhao has in recent years caused a furore with her eye-catching, sensitive mix of lyricism and neorealism. Last spring, the jubilant reviews for The Rider were followed by Oscars for best director and best film for her road movie Nomadland. It is a great surprise that Chloé Zhao is now expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Eternals.

The title refers to an immortal alien race that has been around for thousands of years to protect us from the alien Deviants. Not every film journalist thinks that Zhao lives up to the (too?) high expectations with her overcrowded superhero film drenched in diversity and CGI.
