'Fatwa': one-sided and coercive

The sudden death of his son Marouane forces Brahim to return to Tunis. He hardly recognizes his old neighbourhood. It is even harder to believe that his son fell victim to a Salafistic organization.

It is understandable that the Brussels-based veteran filmmaker Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud explores the question of why young people succumb to the discourse of extremists who abuse Islam to win power. The problem is that he does not offer any new insights and his script is one-sided and coercive.
