Cinéma Nova is now resurrecting this energetic, experimental political allegory about a dictator who, after his death, seizes power in heaven and a fugitive who becomes a freedom fighter.
Via the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), Fidel Castro invited the French hero of the resistance Armand Gatti to make a film to represent Cuba at the Cannes Film Festival in 1963.
After the festival, due to a conflict between the producer and the ICAIC, El otro Cristóbal disappeared off the radar.
The film is now back from the dead at Cinema Nova.
