'In the Heights': award-winning Broadway production on the big screen

Jon M. Chu, the director who made a fortune with Crazy Rich Asians, has adapted an award-winning Broadway production by Quiara Alegría Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).

One uplifting or exuberant song and dance number after another pays tribute to the resilience, closeness and spirit of a not so touristy neighbourhood in Manhattan. It is populated by first- or second-generation immigrants from Latin America. Each character has their headaches, their dreams. A heat wave with a blackout forces them to make choices, and to sing.
