Twenty-five years ago, horror maestro Wes Craven and devious screenwriter Kevin Williamson renewed the slasher in spectacular fashion. The youngsters to be stabbed were, for the first time, aware of the existence of slashers and the sometimes laughable banter of the genre. It didn't stop Ghostface from stringing them along with his/her/their knife.
'Scream 5': the scream queens are back
Numerous copycats turned the postmodern horror comedy into a sub-genre. Scream 3 was a stinker. Scream 4 was acceptable, in 2011. It's a scared wait to see what Scream 5 will be. The old guard is there, apart from Wes Craven. Just over five years ago, he found out whether there is in fact a heaven.
