'Son-Mother': a heart-rending drama

A widow in financial difficulties puts her son in a boarding school for deaf and dumb children. She has to convince her new husband to put aside Iranian religious tradition and take her son in after all. The heart-rending drama tells the story of both the mother and the son.

In her first feature film, Mahnaz Mohammadi, a director who was tortured in an Iranian prison, denounces the disadvantaged position of women and wonders to what extent women are sometimes their own oppressors.
