It was in a nightclub that the Italo-German choreographer Marco Berrettini decided to enroll at the London School of Contemporary Dance and then to train at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, under Pina Bausch and others. It speaks for itself that Berrettini could not care less about the style police.
Choreographer Berrettini goes for gold in My Soul is my Visa
In My Soul Is My Visa, he places five dancers in golden costumes by former Jean Paul Gaultier collaborator Olivier Mulin in a 1970s décor, beside a grand piano that plays Erik Satie, Tom Johnson, Beth Gibbons, Nils Frahm, Nina Simone, and Meredith Monk. The abstract and repetitive choreography is thus automatically imbued with metaphysical magnetism.
