September. That means back to work, back to school, back to reality. Don’t let the daily grind get to you. Add some sparkle to your morning routine with a little dash of this and a little spray of that. And we know just the place to go to: Beauty by Kroonen & Brown near Grote Zavel/Grand Sablon. Ring the doorbell, step inside and start discovering. The first part of the boutique is dedicated to niche perfumes for men and women, such as Amouage, a luxury perfume house with roots in the sultanate of Oman. Each fragrance is put together with the finest ingredients, resulting in sensual oriental scents, aromatic floral hints, or warm and opulent wood aromas. Don’t worry if this sounds too exotic for you, just describe your ideal perfume, and owner Ioana Kroonen and her team will find the right match. Something by the popular Swedish Byredo perhaps, the London-based Miller Harris, or the French Juliette Has a Gun? The back of the shop is all about skincare and make-up. Again, a carefully composed selection, based on the product’s ingredients and effects. The shop stocks amongst others the South African Environ and the Japanese Menard. Take a seat in the make-up chair, and Ioana will explain everything you need to know. The same goes for the mineral cosmetic range by Jane Iredale, an English make-up artist who started her own line after a career in the film industry. Many stars suffered from bad skin, which prompted her to develop products without any harmful ingredients (and landed her the Skin Cancer Foundation’s “Seal of Recommendation”). Ioana will show you how to look your best, and if you’d like to know more, why not book a make-up class with friends? Or go for an entire pampering session, starting with a facial and ending with a manicure. Tried by yours truly, and very much approved. Reservations are a must.
