The front row has all the best seats, located right next to the catwalk. They’re usually taken by fashion journalists and celebrities, all keen to discover the latest buzz in the industry. In Brussels, it’s also the name of a new concept store selling the first collection of budding international designers. You’ll find Front Row in the Louiza/Louise shopping gallery. It opened a couple of weeks ago, after Brussels-based fashion designer Deborah Courtoy toyed with the idea for about a year. Originally from Bastogne, she used to work for Belgian designer Johanne Riss. She also lived in London for four years, where she met a lot of young designers looking for a place to show and sell their collections. Deborah always wanted to open her own shop, moved back to Brussels, and just did it. She chose eight international designers, all with a wearable and high-quality collection and in a style that would suit the Brussels shoppers. The woollen capes and checked jackets by London label Dickinson’s Room look very English, but are perfect to brave the Brussels winter weather. French brand Parisian Rich came up with sweatshirts and T-shirts with a cool quote. The colourful creations of Rebeca Li show off her Chinese roots, and those looking for a leather bag inspired by the classics of great designer labels might want to have a look at Ella Valentine’s collection. Deborah will change the selection of designers a couple of times per year. For stunning party dresses, go to the first floor where you’ll find Deborah’s own collection. From floor-length evening dresses with a minimal and romantic style – all black or with leather insertions and rushes – to cocktail dresses in a sparkly golden fabric. All made in the shop, sold for 250 to 600 euro. Bring on the next party or wedding! I already know what to wear.
