Second hand clothing and rummaging around thrift shops is a big trend in fashion these days. But did you know charity organisation Spullenhulp/Les Petits Riens has been active for 75 years? They were one of the first to show everybody the possibilities of second hand clothing and furniture. Ten years ago, they came up with a fashion show entirely dedicated to old clothes. This so-called first Second Hand Second Life event took place in the Spullenhulp/Les Petits Riens recycling centre in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. A few Belgian designers got creative with donated frocks, which resulted in a collection of highly fashionable items.
The recipe for the event hasn’t changed much over the years, but it grew a lot bigger and moved to a more spacious venue. On Friday 9 November, Thurn/Tour & Taxis is the place to be for the 10th Second Hand Second Life show. Curious to see what designers such as Delvaux, Elvis Pompilio, Kim Stumpf, Sandrina Fasoli, or Dirk Wynants came up with? Book your tickets for the 10th runway show full of surprises. The organisers don’t want to give too much away, but they did let us know that for the first time, an international designer will take part as well. They chose none less than Véronique Leroy, who technically is a Belgian, but has been living and working in Paris for eternity. Once the show is over, all the creations will be up for auction. Second Hand Second Life’s entire proceedings will go to the support of young homeless people.
