What started as an apothecary in New York’s East Village in 1851 is now a multinational, renowned cosmetic and beauty brand. Kiehl’s needs little introduction and fans will know the entire range has been available in Brussels for quite some time. But the flagship store on Gulden Vlieslaan/avenue de la Toison d’Or is brand new. Back in 1851, John Kiehl offered his customers homeopathic and herbal remedies and soon started developing his own lotions and potions as well. The brand thrives on using only natural ingredients and essential oils, and has always been very open about the components of its products. With a very personal approach where every customer gets the time to discover and test the products, Kiehl’s built up a steady reputation and got to expand rapidly. Nowadays, there are about 300 boutiques and over one thousand points of sale worldwide. High-end beauty shop Senteurs d’Ailleurs on Stefaniaplein/place Stéphanie has been stocking Kiehl’s for a couple of years. That’s the main reason why Antwerp and Ghent got their Kiehl’s boutique before Brussels did. But at the start of July, the doors of the very first flagship store opened on Gulden Vlieslaan/avenue de la Toison d’Or. The shop may look small, but it stocks everything you could possibly be looking for: perfumes (including their best seller Original Musk), hair care (and their great olive and avocado mask), body lotions (the super hydrating Creme de Corps), facial creams, sunscreen, and a range for men and children. And the best news of it all: all the products come with an affordable price tag. In fact, Kiehl’s dropped its prices last year, as a way of thanking its loyal customers. True to the Kiehl’s philosophy, every visitor to the Brussels boutique will get a personalised service and free samples to get to know the products.
