When looking for a workshop to assemble her jewellery, Mathilde Danglade bumped into an empty store/workshop near place Brugmannplein. She fell in love with the space, and decided to open a new shop, where she could sell her jewellery as well as a selection of vintage furniture, clothes, and home decoration. M32 isn’t Mathilde’s first shop. Back in 2007 on the French island Île de Ré, where she’s originally from, she opened M29. Until last year, Mathilde and her business partner Elena ran the shop Em72 on Edelknaapstraat/rue du Page. As you could have guessed, the name of the shop always refers to the first letter of its owner(s) in combination with the house number. For the new M32, rue Darwinstraat is the place to be. Step inside to discover Mathilde’s jewellery collection, a range of delicate bracelets, necklaces, and rings with silver, leather, or precious stones (some of them she found on the beach in Corsica). Vintage fans with a soft spot for all things from the 1950s and ’60s will love the shop too, as there’s a very nice selection of French designer furniture. They all come from Relax Factory in Marseille, where Mathilde chooses the pieces and a friend restores them entirely. Chairs, coffee tables, and sofa beds, the selection is diverse but always sells out quickly. Besides jewellery and furniture, you’ll find some clothes as well. Romantic and elegant blouses by the Italian label Forte Forte for instance, or more edgy clothing by the French brand Roseanna. Mathilde also picked a few brands for men, including the French Officine Generale and shoes by Common Projects. And last but not least, M32 also stocks some items to decorate your home. Vases and plates, found at fairs in France and Italy. Every now and again, Mahilde invites an artist to showcase and sell his or her work, such as ceramist Sandrine Bretton at the start of the year.
