Moss & Bros

Baljuwstraat/rue du Bailli and its surroundings are known for the shops selling all sorts of household accessories and funny gift items. If you’re looking for more unique things and little luxury pleasures, Moss & Bros “home and curiosities” is where you need to be.
The boutique was founded in 2009, by the charismatic Monique. Like many other shop owners, she visits fairs all over the world looking for new products. She never goes for the latest new craze, but instead, picks items from small suppliers with passion for detail and perfection, barely available from other retailers in the country. First thing you’ll notice at the shop is the lovely fragrance in the air. It belongs to the scented candles by the Mexican-born Alexa Rudolfo. You’ll find them on the counter, along with a collection of cute, leather coin purses by Il Bussetto. They’re handmade in Florence and come in all colours. Discover the finest of all socks by the Italian Maria La Rosa, whose craftsmanship has led to collaborations with renowned fashion houses like Marni. Yours truly had a soft spot for the embroidered pillows by Lindell & Co, and the pouches and the tablet and laptop cases by the French Maison Baluchon, made from the most incredibly printed fabric. Moss & Bros sells some Belgian labels too. Maison Marcy Design for instance, Monique’s husband’s brand of cotton pyjamas. From a classic pinstripe to camouflage print, they’re amongst the best-sellers in the shop. You’ll find candles and jewellery by Catherine Michiels as well, whose silk ribbon bracelets with a pendant charm are all the rage in California (where she now lives). There’s a story behind every item, which the shopkeeper will be more than happy to tell. You might end up spending a bit more than at the neighbouring shops, but you’ll have something that you’ll treasure for a long while to come.
