NN70 is a new concept store in rue Léon Lepagestraat that successfully combines art, clothes, jewellery, and make-up. To see what it’s all about, step inside and let owner Sylvie Kettel tell you all about it, perhaps even over a cup of coffee.
To name her shop, Sylvie chose the first part of her national number. A number she feels very attached to, she has even got it tattooed on her wrist. It gives her an identity and makes her who she is. Sylvie is a visual artist who studied art history at ULB. She has a soft spot for art with a Belgian theme (she also helped organise the “Made in Belgium” exhibition, back in 2005). You can’t miss the “La vie est belge” badges at the entrance, by Brussels designer Olivia Hainaut. And on the walls, there are watercolour paintings by Fred Jannin and Serge Dehaes, to name a few. For her new exhibition, “Belgitude ou Belgattitude?”, Sylvie managed to get even bigger names to her shop. Jacques Charlier will put some of his creations on display, his eclectic work reflects on the theme of creation. The cartoons of the French artist Charb, editor-in-chief of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, will be exclusively on sale too. Christopher Coppers’s version of a very Belgian Manneken Pis and some art made of Belgian magazines are available as well. The entire list of participating artists includes Daan and Ozark Henry too, an impressive mix for a starting gallery cum shop. Besides artwork, there are some clothes as well, by the Brussels designer Vanessa Vukicevic and label madameLOL. For a make-up session, book an appointment with Sylvie, who is also an official make-up artist for the French brand Guérlain. And as of May, there’s a Silence Exp(Ear)ience Party every Friday: art, drinks, and a DJ you’ll only hear when you put the headphones on. Visit the shop, you’ll see...it all makes sense!
