Design September may be over, but design lovers keen to discover something new needn’t worry: there’s a brand-new design store in town. Visit The Game on the corner of boulevard Anspachlaan and Rijke Klarenstraat/rue des Riches Claires for a fine selection of design objects.
The man behind the shop is Alexis Ryngaert, whose alter ego Victor Hunt runs the renowned design/art gallery of the same name. Since 2008, he has been looking for promising but not yet established designers to produce their work and showcase it at his gallery in Zennestraat/rue de la Senne. It’s a niche business, with nearly unique creations and a select club of mainly international customers.
With The Game, Ryngaert wants to promote the work of designers he admires, but can’t work with for the gallery. Their smaller and readily available creations appeal to a large audience, but are sometimes hard to find. And that’s where the new shop comes in. Expect a selection of clever, beautiful, and practical items, by both Belgian and international names. From a bright red, green, yellow, or blue bucket by Sylvain Willenz to a set of leather coasters by Martino Gamper, or a wooden stool by Big Game to a set of cosy bed linen by Nuée and a series of wooden desktop stationery by Simon Donald to a handy collection of hooks by Diane Steverlynck.
There’s a lot to discover, with new arrivals every week. And luckily, prices are affordable, starting at around 10 euro for a piggy bank, climbing up to just over 1,000 euro for a wooden table. Perfect for those looking for something to spruce up their kitchen and living room or wanting to offer somebody a smart present.
If you’re eager to discover it all, but can’t pop in anytime soon, there’s an online shop too with the same offer as in-store. A second shop in Antwerp’s Nationalestraat will open soon.
