A swan who changes into a princess we’ll buy, but a prince who changes into a bumblebee? You’d have to be a pretty imaginative Russian to come up with something like that. And that is precisely what author Alexander Pushkin was.

A hundred years after his death, his long poem The Tale of Tsar Saltan inspired Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov’s opera of the same name. At the end of the season, the symphony orchestra and choir of De Munt, conducted by Alain Altinoglu, and a Russian cast directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov will perform this comic psychological family drama that features the audience favourite ‘The Flight of the Bumblebee’.

THE TALE OF TSAR SALTAN 11/6 > 29/6, De Munt/La Monnaie
