Lovers of art books in Brussels can finally breathe an (artistic) sigh of relief at this new temple of books.
Bozar Bookshop: a temple of art books
You could probably best describe the brand-new Bozar Bookshop as a painful place for your wallet. The Ghent-based architects Robbrecht & Daem designed this new shop in the museum's Horta Hall in the same style as the Bozar Café next door and the Bozar ticket office across the street. Stark lines, dark wooden bookshelves, and a large golden minimalist chandelier, and all with subtle references to the building's art deco past and Victor Horta.
Bozar is overjoyed to be collaborating with the German book supplier Walther König, which is famous the world over as one of the most important publishers of art books. The shop offers more than 2,000 titles that reflect the Bozar programme, from exhibition catalogues to publications on art, architecture, photography, and design, as well as postcards, design objects, knick-knacks, and toys.
Our favourite is the pocket edition of Theo van Doesburg designed by the Belgian leather fashion label Lilù (€240). And it is difficult to miss the impressive collection of new and second-hand books for the Picasso. Sculptures exhibition.
In the future, the shop will also host book signings and artists' talks. With this new space, Bozar is aiming to make the visitor experience richer and more diverse. Feel free to stick around with a book and take a seat in the Albert Hall. Lovers of art books in Brussels can finally breathe an (artistic) sigh of relief at this new temple of books.
