Martini Bar

In 2004, the Martini Tower on place Rogierplein had to be demolished to make space for the Dexia Tower. It is less than ten years later, and Dexia doesn’t even exist anymore. Martini, on the other hand, still does. The reason the International Rogier Centre was popularly known by locals as the Martini Tower was thanks to the prestigious panoramic Martini bar that was installed on the top floor in 1961, which was also crowned with the brand’s famous logo. Martini is currently pursuing expansion again, a fact obvious not only from the increasingly varied range of products sold under the Italian brand founded in 1863, but also from the accompanying occasions and locations to drink, aimed at the upper middle class drinker. Brussels already had the Spirito Martini club/restaurant, and now there is also a Martini bar/restaurant on Waterloo. It is right beside The Hotel and has a view of the Egmont park at the back. The Antwerp-based company Pure Sang did the interior design, and opted for the classic lounge style. Black, brown, and beige materials are mixed eclectically with red and white light, a spot of vintage, and a spot of bling bling in the style of the golden LED logo. Predictable and over-preened, but at the same time also luxurious and generous in its range of seats, chairs, armchairs, bars, and tables. The central focus is on the bar, which serves Martini in all its forms – bianco, rossi, extra dry, brut, prosecco, etc. – and all the cocktails that can be made with it. But there are other drinks on the menu too: from the Bacardi group, for example, of which Martini is a member, as well as a number of champagnes. A place to drink an aperitif or have dinner after shopping, but also a good spot to let your hair down at the weekends with the DJ.

NL ❙ In 2004 moest de Martini-toren op het Rogierplein per se tegen de grond om plaats te maken voor de Dexia-toren. We zijn nog geen tien jaar later en Dexia bestaat al niet meer. Martini daarentegen nog wel. Dat het Internationaal Rogiercentrum door de Brusselaars destijds Martini-toren werd genoemd, had alles te maken met de prestigieuze panoramische Martini-bar die er in 1961 werd geïnstalleerd op de bovenste verdieping, die ook werd bekroond door het bekende logo. Dezer dagen doet Martini opnieuw aan expansie. Dat merk je niet alleen aan het almaar uitbreidende assortiment dat onder de Italiaanse merknaam uit 1863 wordt verkocht, maar ook aan bijbehorende drankgelegenheden die mikken op het segment van de upper middle class-stapper. Eerder opende in Brussel al de club/restaurant Spirito Martini, nu is er ook een Martini Bar (met restaurant) aan de Waterloolaan. De zichtbaarheid van op straat is een beetje een probleem, want je moet eerst een galerijtje door, maar de Martini Bar ligt vlak naast The Hotel (het voormalige Hilton) en kijkt achteraan uit op het Egmontpark. Voor de inrichting zorgde het Antwerpse bureau Puresang. Zij kozen voor de inmiddels klassieke loungestijl. Zwart, bruin en beige materialen worden eclectisch doorbroken met rood en wit licht, een streepje vintage en een streepje blingbling in de stijl van het gulden ledlogo. Voorspelbaar en afgelikt, maar tegelijk ook wel weer luxueus en genereus in het keuzeaanbod aan zitjes, stoelen en zeteltjes, togen en tafeltjes. Centraal staat de bar waar Martini kan worden besteld in al zijn vormen: bianco, rossi, extra dry, brut, prosecco... en ook al de cocktails die daarmee kunnen worden gemaakt. Maar er staan ook andere dranken op de kaart: die van de Bacardi-groep waar Martini inmiddels toe behoort, en ook een aantal champagnes, in alle magnumformaten. Een plek voor een aperitief of een diner na het shoppen, maar ook om in het weekend door te zakken met de dj.

FR ❙ En 2004, la Tour Martini, sur la place Rogier, a dû s’écrouler pour faire place à la Tour Dexia. À peine dix ans plus tard, Dexia n’existe plus. Martini, par contre, oui. Le fait que le centre international Rogier ait été surnommé à l’époque « Tour Martini » par les Bruxellois était lié au prestigieux bar panoramique Martini qui avait été installé en 1961 au dernier étage, également couronné par le fameux logo. De ces temps-ci, Martini est à nouveau en expansion. On le remarque non seulement à l’assortiment vendu sous le nom de la marque italienne de 1862, qui s’élargit sans cesse, mais aussi aux établissements assortis qui visent le segment des piliers de bar de la classe moyenne supérieure. À Bruxelles, on avait déjà le club-restaurant Spirito Martini, et voilà que maintenant il y a aussi un bar-restaurant Martini à la chaussée de Waterloo. La visibilité de la rue pose un peu problème parce qu’il faut traverser une galerie pour y arriver, mais le Martini Bar se trouve juste à côté de The Hotel (l’ancien Hilton) et donne à l’arrière sur le parc d’Egmont. C’est le bureau anversois Pure Sang qui a pris en charge l’aménagement intérieur, en optant pour le style lounge désormais classique. Des matériaux noirs, bruns et beiges sont ponctués de manière éclectique par des lumières rouges et blanches, une petite touche de vintage et de bling-bling, dans le genre du logo en LED doré. Prévisible et lisse, mais en même temps très luxueux et généreux dans le choix en sièges, chaises, fauteuils, comptoirs et tables. Au centre se trouve le bar où l’on peut commander du Martini sous toutes ses formes : bianco, rosso, extra dry, brut, prosecco… ainsi que tous les cocktails auxquels il sert d’ingrédient. Mais il y a aussi d’autres boissons à la carte : celles du groupe Bacardi, auquel appartient désormais Martini, et une série de champagnes, dans tous les formats magnum. Un endroit pour un apéritif ou un repas après le shopping, mais aussi pour se prendre une cuite le week-end avec le DJ.
