De Onmisbare 3: Podium

1. Theater Malpertuis blaast 50 kaarsjes uit

Vijftig jaar oud is Theater Malpertuis, en om dat te vieren stond artistiek directeur en regisseur Piet Arfeuille erop om een voorstelling te maken met acht jonge acteurs, pas afgestudeerd aan theaterscholen in Brussel, Gent, Antwerpen en Londen.

Samen buigen ze zich over de actualiteit van het Europese continent, dat af te rekenen krijgt met migratiegolven en opkomend nationalisme.

Niet helemaal verwonderlijk keren zij daarvoor terug naar twee Griekse klassieken, meer bepaald naar Sofokles’ Thebaanse tragedies Oedipus in Kolonos en Antigone. Maar ook de stemmen van Geert Mak, Luuk van Middelaar en Pussy Riot klinken door.

2. Le Printemps des Barbares

On vit une époque où tout est possible. Et surtout le pire. Alors pourquoi pas la faillite, de l’Angleterre, de sa monnaie et de tout le système bancaire ?

L’apocalypse capitaliste submerge comme un tsunami un groupe de traders invités à un mariage dans un resort cinq étoiles posé dans le désert tunisien. Quand les lignes de crédit sont bloquées, la gueule de bois du lendemain de fête prend des allures de panique et les insouciants jet-setteurs se métamorphosent en barbares aux abois. La farce féroce de l’auteur suisse est transposée à la scène par Xavier Lukomski et son interprète Pierre Sartenaer.

3. The Wild Wild West at Kaaitheater

Nature Theater of Oklahoma has performed at the Kaaitheater several times before. The company led by Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper recently disbanded, so the pair decided to launch a new project.

The pursuit of happiness is, after all, a fundamental right according to the American Declaration of Independence. Liska and Copper explore this striving in a neo-Western horror comedy about expansion in the Wild West.

The piece is a collaboration with the EnKnapGroup, a dance company from the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. The New York Times described this piece as “one of the wildest things you’ll see this year”, and we agree wholeheartedly.
