In “Norwegian Wood”, photographer France Dubois enters the fragile world of nightly landscapes and tender self-portraits. The manufactured, restrained poses of her own androgynous body contrast sharply with the images of the wild Norwegian forests.
France Dubois enters the fragile world of tender self-portraits
“Norwegian Wood” is an emotionally weighty series that she made in Brussels and Scandinavia. A disease that had partly immobilised her made her reach for her camera. With the vulnerable self-portraits against a black background, she resists undergoing the disease and reacts to it. After she had been cured, she travelled to Norway where the expansive forests gave her a second wind.
