A neighbours’ quarrel about a broken gutter may intensify anywhere in the world, but in Beirut it can get so out of hand that it becomes a state affair, with media violence, rioting, and an intervention by the president.
The problem is not the gutter but the identity of the quarrellers: Tony is a Christian, Yasser a Palestinian refugee.
The fact that the characters lack depth and the dialogues lack spontaneity are tolerable shortcomings for an entertaining film that makes complex issues accessible and comprehensible.
