This past spring, on the solo album Finding Gabriel, the American piano virtuoso Brad Mehldau highlighted once again how much he loves to colour outside the lines.

The record with a biblical message, wordless singing parts, and many guests is miles away from the piano trio with Larry Grenadier on double bass and Jorge Rossy and, later, Jeff Ballard on drums, with which he wrote jazz history.
Their last CD Seymour Reads the Constitution! is actually only one year old. Fortunately, the productivity of the master improvisor, who interprets standards, pop tunes, and his own work with complete ease, seemingly has no effect whatsoever on his genuine musical class.
