We first heard from Anika eight years ago, when she recorded music with Geoff Barrow. It was not for new work by Portishead, but to add vocals to Barrow’s other project, the no-wave meets krautrock band BEAK>.
The legend of Anika
The sessions resulted in nine tracks for her solo debut, including an industrial electro dub version of Dylan’s “Masters of War” and The Kinks’ “I Go to Sleep” with a Nico touch. In the meantime, the British-German singer has moved to Mexico and formed the group Exploded View with an international posse of musicians. The dubby, dreamy postpunk that the foursome make is still an unsettling interplay of reality and delusion.
