The inhabitants of the Italian island Lampedusa and the Italian politician Emma Bonino received an honorary doctorate. They were honoured for their commitment vis-à-vis the refugees who arrived on the island. Doctor Pietro Bartolo received the title on behalf of the inhabitants of Lampedusa. He has treated thousands of refugees.
