In beeld: de Gentsesteenweg was even van de Brusselaar

Er waren ooit paaltjes gezet om een fietspad te markeren, maar die verdwenen vorig jaar op mysterieuze wijze. De Gentsesteenweg staat te boek als absolute nachtmerrie voor Brusselse fietsers. Maar in de huidige geest van 'woonerf Brussel' was de auto eind vorige week even geen koning op de verkeersader. Allicht hadden het verlengde hemelvaartweekend en het einde van de ramadan daar iets mee te maken. Brusselaars konden te voet en met de fiets heen en weer zonder zich zorgen te maken over hun veiligheid. En dat deden ze ook massaal. Dat het weer af en toe wat tegenzat, kon de pret niet drukken.

LA RUE APPARTIENT AU BRUXELLOIS
FR/ Des poteaux avaient été installés pour délimiter une piste cyclable, mais ils ont mystérieusement disparu l'année dernière. La chaussée de Gand est réputée être le cauchemar absolu des cyclistes bruxellois. Mais dans l'état d'esprit actuel d'un "Bruxelles zone résidentielle", la voiture n'était plus la reine de l'artère en fin de semaine dernière. Le week-end prolongé de l'Ascension et la fin du Ramadan y sont probablement pour quelque chose. Les Bruxellois ont pu faire des allers-retours à pied et à vélo sans avoir à craindre pour leur sécurité. Ils l'ont fait massivement et le temps maussade n'a en rien gâché leur plaisir.

THE STREET BELONGS TO THE LOCALS
EN/ Bollards were once installed to mark out a bicycle lane, but they disappeared mysteriously last year. The Gentsesteenweg is well-known as an absolute nightmare for cyclists in Brussels. But in the current spirit of “residential Brussels”, at the end of last week, the car was not king on this main road into the city. The long Ascension weekend and the end of Ramadan probably had something to do with that. Brussels locals could walk and cycle to and fro without worrying about their safety. And they did so in droves. Changeable weather could not dampen the mood.
