Rocketman, the film about Elton John, is as in tune as Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic about Queen, was flat.
The film thanks its flamboyance not only to the music, but also to the inventiveness with which the musical moments are presented. Elton’s music makes people fly and makes Elton himself explode like a firework.
Read Wikipedia if you want to know where he went to school and how many lovers he had. Rocketman serves up more interesting fare: campy, flirty carnival. Actor Taron Egerton realized it was pointless to try and plumb the depths of the musician and wisely focuses on being as good a showman as the colourful character he plays. And he succeeds.
