'A star is born': can Lady Gaga act?

Does A Star Is Born deserve the hype? The story of the love between a famous artist with a drinking problem and an unknown woman whom he helps on her way to stardom was hailed as an instant classic

And yes, Lady Gaga can act, and Bradley Cooper doesn’t do too badly at all as a singing actor in his own directorial debut. But A Star is Born is not an overwhelming musical.

The beginning is too long-winded and the last act is rushed. By not overdoing the melodrama, the sentimentality becomes less bearable. Moreover, Cooper overestimates the authenticity of his film and flirts with unnecessary disdain for pop music with a lot of dancers on the stage.
