L’Apollonide was going to make Bertrand Bonello a permanent fixture, but things took a different turn. When his latest project got cancelled, he decided to make a film with little money but tons of passion.

Zombi Child is a mix of a zombie movie about a boy who escapes from a sugarcane plantation in Haiti in the 1960s, and a teen movie about his granddaughter, who as a member of a secret society at an elite school in France spends her time discussing books, boys, racism, and historiography. Compelling.
