John Moreland has a background in punk and hardcore, but seduced by his dad’s Steve Earle records, he now marinates his seasoned voice in frayed country, folk, and Americana that gallops across the wide heartlands of the USA.

The 32-year-old singer, who tattooed his home state Oklahoma on his fingers, is surrounded by the Dust Bowl Souls, a band that is gradually preferring acoustic guitars to electronic ones by far. On Big Bad Luv, his seventh album that was released last year, the self-proclaimed sad bastard is still wrestling with love, happiness, and religion, but he is gradually letting the sun break through the grey blanket of clouds.

JOHN MORELAND 20/6, 19.30, Botanique
