The Japanese pianist Mitsuko Uchida is a world-renowned performer of the music of Mozart. She has recorded all of his major piano concerti, about half of them even twice. Listening to all that music would take you roughly 15 hours.
Mitsuko Uchida the Mozart-concerto queen
At Bozar, we won’t get the pleasure of listening to her for quite so long. She’ll stick to concerti number 19 and 20. Performing both of them in one evening is already quite the challenge, but all the while she’ll be conducting the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
To give Uchida a short break, the piano concerti are interwoven with Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite. An interesting clash between the first and the second Viennese school.
