At the great festivals, the Korean director Hong Sang-soo presents one innovative film after another – but we rarely get to see them in Belgian cinemas. Cinematek is now doing something about that, with a retrospective of his work.

The director of The Day a Pig Fell into the Well, Woman is the Future of Man, and Hahaha takes an inventive approach to narrative structure in films whose themes include bungling in love and difficulties in communication.
He will be here to introduce some of the films and will also give a masterclass. Memo to directors who complain about budgetary problems: Hong gets by with just two actors, a location, and about $5,000.
