Wednesday afternoon, the parliamentary investigative committee started its activities. The committee is looking for answers after the two terror attacks in Brussels and Zaventem on March 22nd. The main question is why did it take so long to shut down the subway and couldn't the attack içn Maalbeek have been avoided?
Our colleagues at Terzake on VRT made a reconstruction of the 73 minutes between the two explosions at the airoprt and in the subway. It seems that the communication was not optimal. The committee will be looking at the reasons for that.
On Wednesday, behind closed doors, the committee set up its mode of operation. Next Monday, the real investigation wil begin. Only then will they be able to question witnesses and really start their work.
Four experts will help this committee, including security expert Brice De Ruyver. One of the four will be a judge to make sure the parliamentary investigation does not hinder the rest of the police work.
The two attacks in metro station Maalbeek and Brussels airport killed 32 people on March 22nd.
