The Brussels-based artist with Portuguese roots João Freitas won the Young Talent Prize from Art on Paper in 2015 for his ephemeral, intimate, and electrifying paper art. And last year he had to find some extra space on his awards shelf for the Prix Médiatine.

It is no surprise that he has become a multi-award-winning artist: his fragile, poetic works dive straight into their subject matter and thus reveal themselves to be in a permanent state of becoming or drawing to an end. At the Chapelle de Boondael, these subtle, almost silent sculptural installations, videos, drawings, and textile works are welcomed in a sort of laboratory setting.
