The sun smiles on one and all in this refined, summery Italian film by Luca Guadagnino (Io sono l’amore, A Bigger Splash). But it shines especially on Elio and Oliver. This film actually is about little more than the budding love between the two of them. From feeling but not realizing, to careful exploration and finally, unbridled passion. Guadagnino doesn’t rush anything, and makes the most of the sunshine, the gestures, glances, and searching bodies. More tender, touching, and sensual than a ripe peach.
