The new adaptation of the horror classic by Stephen King is not bad. The actors are good and the jump scares are well-paced.
And yet the film disappoints because it could have been much more than a decent horror film. The directing duo has not managed to render the crushing darkness of the book. This could have been a heart-rending film about the human inability to look death in the eye and about the destruction we inflict on ourselves if we try to make death reversible.
