The series The Sound of Protest is deeply committed to current affairs, but what would it be without Patti Smith, the Ancienne Belgique must have thought.

And so the grande dame of American punk, the progenitrix of free thought, is coming to proclaim her inspiring message of free self-expression in Brussels.

Whoever has seen her perform recently will have been swept up in a whirlwind of deeply cutting emotions and a raised fist. Like at Rock Werchter in 2015, where we watched with tears in our eyes as she movingly performed selections from her album Horses.

From the first words, “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine”, to “Elegie”, in which she said goodbye to, amongst others, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Lou Reed. Three chances to have a date with history. Do not miss them.
