The fascinating, hypnotizing Fase. Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich was Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s first real dance debut in 1982, after the more theatrical Asch in 1980.
Dances in hypnotizing fases
The quadriptych was conceived when the choreographer went to the New York University Tisch School of Arts after graduating from Maurice Béjart’s Mudra dance school.
Since it was first reprised in 1992, Fase has remained a fixture in the repertoire, and De Keersmaeker has always danced in the productions herself.
For the first time in 36 years, she is now allowing other dancers to produce her signature piece. The duos Yuika Hashimoto and Laura Maria Poletti, and Laura Bachman and Soa Ratsifandrihana will alternate with each other.
