Filippo La Vecchia (of the adjoining Osteria Romana) offers a range of delicious dishes in small portions.
Superb pork belly (€7.50) comes with a blowtorch for heating a knife to cut thin slices to spread on your bread.
Instead of the usual antipasti, Le Cave offers more unconventional creations: excellent calf sweetbread and rice croquettes with Bottarga and sage (€13), melting aubergine caponata (€7), or Rocamadour with truffle, honey, and pollen (€7.50). The tortellini with a mushroom, pea, and ham sauce (€13) was flawless.
A wide selection of Italian wines includes gems like the Villa Gemma 2009 (€80), a memorable Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
