Of all the sequels and remakes made over the past forty years, Halloween by David Gordon Green is the closest to the original slasher by John Carpenter.
Green is not obsessive about the figure of the masked psychopath Michael Myers and also pays attention to the other assets of the original: its ingenious narrative arc, efficient storytelling, technical mastery, and Carpenter’s chilling synthesizer score.
Green also makes maximum use of the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, the scream queen of forty years ago who wants to exorcise her devil once and for all.
Even though you are not on the very edge of your seat, it is suspiciously fun to be back in Haddonfield.
