The Brussels-based director Fabrice Du Welz has made a scintillating film about the madness of first love: Adoration.
The moony son of a nurse in a psychiatric institution runs into a young patient. Paul falls head over heels in love. But his flight with the insane Gloria is doomed from the start. The charismatic performances by Thomas Gioria and Fantine Harduin make it unthinkable that they will not be making more appearances in front of the camera. The extraordinary thing about this cruel fairy-tale is the cinematographic expression of amour fou. Du Welz is a magician with light and immersive shots. Adoration is an experience, despite the thin plot.
